New Hope City Information
Here is a list of facts and a bit of information about the city of New Hope and the dome that encases it. If you have a question that isn't on this list, feel free to respond to this post and we'll answer it as soon as possible.

NEW HOPE INFORMATION

• There is no weather. The dome simulates daylight and darkness, and a light mist is sprayed from the water supply to the various trees and plants at regular intervals, but there are no breezes, no snow, no rain, etc.

• While there is no weather in New Hope, the temperature controls are set up to simulate daytime (warmer temperatures) and nighttime (cooler temperatures). At no time, however, will the temperature reach below 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius), or above 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celcius), as most average people are comfotable in those temperatures without requiring external heat or means of cooling themselves.

• In regards to the outside world, keep in mind that it has been ravaged by war, disease, and general mass hysteria. The exact history of what transpired remains an unknown within the game, beyond what is explained to your character when they first arrive, but suffice it to say that the planet is not currently inhabitable and very much looks as though it isn't. The only ones who really sustain life beyond New Hope are the infected, and their life expectancy isn't very long by any means.

• Despite the terrible conditions of the planet, it is possible to catch glimpses of things beyond the casing of the dome. Typically, on what would be considered a 'clear' day, it may even be possible to see the ruins that were once the city of Geneva just off in the distance. There are also hills that surround New Hope, as well as mountains filling the skyline. However, as previously stated, most of these things are only really noticeable during 'clear' days. Unless, of course, it is IC for your character to see things no matter the conditions. Otherwise, there is a murky haze that fills the air outside like a blanket and makes figures and shapes little more than passing shadows.

• Although there are those who are still infected with the disease who roam the area around New Hope, rarely do these people get very close to the dome. Of course, there are always a handful who would be more brave than others, so if you'd like to have your character 'approached' by one through the dome and/or become startled by one suddenly approaching through the murky mist, feel free. Just don't overdo it.

• There is no established government, or hierarchy of power, in New Hope. Not currently, at least. This may change (and change rapidly) as people continue to arrive as we encourage all players to take the initiative and help get New Hope up and functional within the game itself, but at this point it is very much in a lawless state.

• Yes, there are shops within New Hope. Buildings that could work for bars, restaurants, essentially most everything needed for a functional town. There are even movies, although most are 'classics' that were released in the late twentieth/early twenty-first century. There are not, however, people who run these shops. That is up to those who arrive in New Hope. So if it is in your character's personality to be a doctor, they are more than welcome to open up a doctor's office. The supplies would be available. They simply must take the initiative to get the office opened and running smoothly.

NOTE: Although it is our intention to have only playable characters running everything within the city, we also realize that may simply not be possible. Therefore, we will have a small list of NPCs who also arrive via the same means as the characters arrive, whose sole purpose will be to be the 'owners' of various places for characters to frequent. If you find that you need an NPC for that purpose, simply contact us and we'll happily set something up.

• There is no currency in New Hope. Just to be clear, we're going to say that again. There is no currency in New Hope. Money does not exist. There are no banks, no paychecks, nothing of that nature. The barter system is how most will typically pay for what they need, although there is always the option of manual labor to work off the cost as well. Or, get creative and come up with other ideas! Just remember that there is no currency as we know it.

• There is no charge, however, for the room each character is assigned upon arrival, nor is there any charge for the ration bars that can be picked up in the lobby of the building where they are housed. The bars are given out, via a thumbprint scan, to each person on a day to day basis. Only two bars, per person, per day. Of course, if your character is the type (and capable) of cheating the system somehow, that is allowed as well. Just keep it realistic as pertaining to that character, in that situation.

• Ration bars are not, by any means, the only way for your character to eat. There are plenty of other dried goods which are edible, and fields which can be utilized to grow various vegetables and fruit. However, until the food warehouses are discovered and characters who know how to farm arrive and begin planting crops (which will, coincidentally, need to be updated into the watering system), the ration bars are the easiest and only truly free way to eat.

• Regarding religion. We realize that some of the characters who arrive are going to be religious in nature. However, obviously the scientists would not know of any religions that exist beyond planet Earth, so do not expect there to be anything resembling a character's religion if it is alien in nature. However, for the religions typically practiced on Earth, there are churches, synagogues, mosques, and various other holy places where the characters can feel free to worship. Simply keep in mind that many of these buildings would be dirty and dusty and slowly decaying due to lack of upkeep. And, of course, there would be no religious leaders unless characters stepped into those particular roles.

And that's it, for now! As we said, if you think of anything you'd like to know and it isn't covered here, feel free to reply and we'll answer your question (and add it to our list) as soon as possible!
