RULES

01. Do not be a douche. We cannot stress this enough. This is not a joke. People are here to have fun, so if you have a problem, take it up with them, and if it persists, contact the mods and we will see what we can do.

02. IC | OOC

There is a line there, don't cross it. Just because someone doesn't like your character, it does not mean that their mun does not like you. It's a game, not everyone is going to get along.

03. This is not a crack game. We will allow some leeway but for the most part please try to be true to your character. Dramatic changes must take place over time and be realistic. For example, Lestat is not going to be having tea and crackers with Buffy Summers anytime soon.

04. There is a ten character limit, per person, for this game.

05. You may play two major characters per fandom. This means that if you want to play Batman and the Joker, you cannot also play Harvey Dent or Rachel Dawes. Minor characters will be on a case by case, as we realize some fandoms are bigger than others.

06. Extreme violence/non-con/incest/basically anything considered really dark or taboo MUST be behind an lj-cut and given a proper warning. Failure to do so will result in warnings up to and including asking you to leave the game. Also, if a scene is extremely dark and/or explicitly sexual in nature, we ask that you make the entry friends only.

07. Journals can be used in multiple games but, if you do a lot of personal entries, please set up a filter. We're not going to be picky on journal names, as long as it relates to/fits the character in some way. Example: A perfect journal for Sam Winchester could be sammywinchester or demonichunter.

08. This is a multifandom game, so interaction OUTSIDE of your own fandom is key to this game's success. Understandably some characters will feel more comfortable with people in their own fandom, but we'd like to see some pan-fandom interaction as well. Using newhopecomms would be a great start for this.

09. The housing is fairly simple. Each character will be assigned a room when they first arrive at New Hope. They can wander anywhere in the city that they'd like. Although work is not required, if it is IC for your character to find ways to keep themselves busy, work can always be found to do.

10. Once you are accepted into the game, please read this for an explanation of what your character will encounter upon first arriving in New Hope. Make certain to read this before you make your first post at cityofnewhope.

11. You are allowed to bring your character in from any point in the canon that you wish. If you wanted to play Peter Petrelli from after he lost his memories, go for it. All we ask is that you place some sort of information somewhere in your character's journal/userinfo stating what point in canon they are from.

Also, make certain you make an OOC note in any scene which may involve spoilers. Not everyone wants to be spoiled and not everyone can see new episodes/movies/etc. the moment they're available to the public.

12. If you're going to play an animated character, please choose a real PB for them. Some people are uncomfortable interacting with cartoons.

13. Canon Puncturing is, by definition, when one character informs another character that they are fictional. We do allow canon puncturing, but you must get the permission of the mun you intend to puncture before doing so.

Finding out that you are fictional can be very difficult for your character to handle. It can also be a very fun thing, if played the right way. So please make certain to get player permission, first and foremost.

14. There is a four week activity requirement for this game. This means that at least once a month, you must have your character in a scene or have posted a journal entry, or they may be subject to removal. Real life comes up, we know, so if you cannot meet this requirement, let us know, and we will work something out.

Also, posts to newhopecomms do not count towards your monthly activity, as we'd like to encourage some actual threading in cityofnewhope. Additionally, If you are removed for inactivity, you must wait two weeks before applying for any additional characters.

15. All players must be at least 18 years of age or older due to the dark nature of this game.

16. If you drop a character, you must wait one week to pick up another.

17. If you are going to drop a thread, please let the other person/people you are threading with know. Do not just stop replying. Threads with no replies for over a week are considered dead threads, and it's up to the people involved to resolve just what happened. If this becomes an on-going problem, we will be forced to take a more active stance on this matter.

18. Repeat PBs are perfectly fine. Clearly actors and actresses are cast in various roles, therefore those characters would look very much alike if not identical. All we ask is, if you are choosing a PB for a book character, you make certain the PB you've chosen fits that character's description.

19. We have entry tags. Use them. We cannot stress this enough, especially in cityofhope. This is how we will be checking activity. Your character's tag is their first and last name, unless they have an alias or simply do not have a last name.

20. Please spell check and use proper grammar whenever possible unless it is not in character to do so. InsaneJournal has a spell check tool that is easily used and, typically, a quick read-through of what you've just written will help you catch any glaringly obvious grammatical errors.

21. While it is not required, it would be a good idea to have AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) as this is the main way most players plot with others in the game. If you cannot download AIM, there are various other versions available as well as AIM Express. If you're unfamiliar with any of these, please contact the mods and we'll do our best to explain.

22. Marriages and divorces don't happen overnight unless it is IC for the characters to do such a thing, and pregnancies must last at least three months unless there is something mystical/different about it. Both marriages and babies must be agreed upon by both players in the storyline.

23. Strikeouts are deleted comments that should not be replied to, unless your character is able to do this.

24. Original Characters will not be allowed at this time.

25. Last but not least, do not forget that this is a game and the point is to have fun. There are admittedly quite a few rules listed, but most of them are simply common sense. Treat others as you'd like to be treated, don't act as though you have more internet connection than common sense, and things will be fine. Just remember to have fun!!
